The Pillars of Creation
The Eagle Nebula was discovered in 1745 by Swiss astronomer Jean-Philippe Loys de Chéseaux and is located 7,000 light years away from Earth in the Serpens constellation. The "Pillars of Creation" can be seen in this absolutely breathtaking Hubble Space Telescope image - and are part of an active star-forming region within the nebula.
